“Never rely on a plan B “– that was the strategy adopted by British / Kosovan Dua Lipa to succeed in the music industry. Her plan A proved her right: Dua has become the biggest breakout artist in the world. She is the #1 most streamed female artist on Spotify, scooped two BRIT Awards after being nominated in five categories and has just spent 8 weeks at #1 in the UK this summer with her hit ‘One Kiss’ – the most weeks for a female artist this century.
Born in London to Albanian parents from Kosovo, Dua attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School – a school of performing arts -until she was 11, when she and her family moved back to Kosovo. Encouraged by her teacher, Dua convinced her parents to let her move back to London when she was 15 to follow her aspirations and dreams to become a singer and songwriter. She recorded songs and covers, posted them on social media, where she was discovered by Lana Del Rey’s management team, who instantly recognised her talent and signed her.
